Our modern lifestyle depends on far more water than we see. This lecture connects what is on our dinner plate to the defining crises of our time. We will explore how the depletion of ancient aquifers is reshaping agriculture, how uneven water distribution fuels international tensions along rivers like the Nile and the Tigris-Euphrates, and how water mismanagement triggers public health and ecological disasters, from arsenic poisoning in Bangladesh to the disappearance of the Aral Sea. Join us to understand how groundwater, food systems, and geopolitics intersect, and what water security means for our future. |
